Dinosaur Hunter

G'day, and welcome to this episode of Dinosaur Hunters!

We heard that we could learn how to identify dinosaurs, and maybe see some, by visiting with some three year old dinosaur experts at the North Cambridge Children's Center. So off we went, on a rainy Tuesday, to visit the Sunshine Room. We were amazed at how much there is to learn about the mighty dinosaurs.

A Dinosaur Song

The first thing we learned was that you must sing a song to summon the mighty beasts. They like to hear songs.

To the tune of "Itsy Bitsy Spider"

Over in the tar pit
Lived a brontosaurus
Lived a brontosaurus
A long long time ago

It was very very tall
It's brain was very very small
Very tall very small

  Oh oh oh oh

Over in the tar pit
Lived a brontosaurus
Lived a brontosaurus
A long long time ago

long neck
Brontosaurus with long neck

With the songs out of the way, and spirits summoned, the lectures began. We learned from a group of dinosaur specialists how to identify many of the most common dinosaurs. They told us dinosaur features, and drew pictures of some of the ones we might come across if they were still around. They also jumped up, ran around and roared to demonstrate the ferocious sounds dinosaurs are capable of making.

The Sunshine Room Dinosaur Guide

Here is the Guide to Dinosaurs the experts helped us create during our visit. You can use this guide if you need to identify dinosaurs in your area.

Added Bonus Cool Question:

Here's a picture of a tar pit. Tar pits are where many dinosaur bones have been found, including the brontosaurus from the song.

Brontosaurus

Here's a picture of a brontosaurus. It has a head and feet, eyes and a long, long neck. Its bones can often be found in tar pits.
